At Family Creations, we understand that making the decision to become a surrogate is a serious, life-changing event. For women who have already helped another family through the process of surrogacy, the experience can be exhilarating. Our previous surrogates often express the desire to give the gift of life for second or third family and ask us, “How many times can you be a surrogate?” While there is no set limit on the number of times you can be a surrogate, there are several factors to consider when choosing to be a surrogate for a second, third, or fourth time.
Reasons to be a Surrogate More Than Once
Surrogacy offers women a unique and empowering experience. There are numerous reasons to become a surrogate more than once, but most reasons fall into three categories.
The first reason is the life-changing opportunity to give birth to a child for a couple or individual unable to carry a child. The feeling of delight and pride surrogates feel when they are able to pass the newborn to their parents’ arms is indescribable. For several women who have gone through the surrogacy process, they feel the reward of giving this priceless gift is deeply satisfying and may even choose to do surrogacy altruistically.
The second common reason is the emotional connection most surrogates develop with their intended family. It is not uncommon for parents and surrogates to remain in contact after the child’s birth. The level of contact between a surrogate and family is entirely up to them. Another facet of this reason is when women choose to become surrogates to help a family they know. Knowing how often they can be a surrogate to that family will help both parties with planning for future children.
The third reason to be a surrogate is the financial compensation that is provided for surrogacy services. While surrogates are compensated for their time and medical costs, it’s not something that someone would do to make a living. However, the additional pay awarded to an already stay-at-home mom, for example, can be an incentive for some.
Whatever your reason for being a surrogate, Family Creations provides superior service to both intended parents and surrogates. Many of our surrogates have asked us how often they can be a surrogate with Family Creations. As it’s our mission to help create healthy, happy families, we take great pride in helping women through the journey of surrogacy as many times as they want and are able to.
How Many Times Can You Be a Surrogate?
There is no limit to how many times you can be a surrogate, as long as you are physically and emotionally healthy enough to do so. Being a repeat surrogate can be beneficial, as intended parents often want to have more than one child. However, you should also be aware of the potential risks involved in surrogacy, both physical and emotional, before making the decision to become a repeat surrogate.
Family Creations does not impose limitations on how often you can be a surrogate, but we do require an in-depth application and screening process to ensure you are in good health for each pregnancy. In addition ensuring you still meet surrogacy requirements, your general physician will examine you and determine your body’s physical health. We also encourage surrogates to seek mental health counseling during the process, as it can be mentally draining and exhausting. You can be a surrogate however many times as you are able to meet these criteria.
How Often Can You Be a Surrogate with Family Creations?
Being a repeat surrogate allows you to have a lasting impact on many people’s lives. When considering how many times you can be a surrogate, remember that surrogacy has become an increasingly popular choice for couples who have struggled with infertility, in addition to single people and same-sex male couples.
Because of the increased demand for surrogates, the need for healthy women from all cultural, ethnic, and racial backgrounds who would like to become surrogates is on the rise. At Family Creations we do not limit how many times you can be a surrogate as long as you fall within our surrogate age range of 21 – 39 years old and are physically and emotionally able to carry and give birth to a child for someone else.
Because Family Creations does not limit how many times you can be a surrogate, the process to become a surrogate the second or third time is very similar to our initial application. Once you apply, we will schedule a video interview to explain in detail how our surrogate program works and what the surrogate journey entails. While repeat surrogates will be familiar with this process, it’s important to note that every surrogate pregnancy is different because no two babies are alike!
What Can You Expect From Being a Repeat Surrogate?
The process for a second or third, etc, gestational surrogacy with Family Creations is mostly the same no matter how often you decide you can be a surrogate. You will work with a case manager to fill out your surrogate profile and search for a match with a couple or individual seeking a surrogate.
Once a successful match has been made, Family Creations will refer you to an attorney specializing in reproductive law to draft the surrogacy agreement. This agreement protects both you and the intended parent(s). The intended parent(s) usually cover all surrogacy-related expenses including all attorney fees. Please review our payment schedule details for more information about the cost and compensation for surrogacy.
At Family Creations, our compassionate and experienced staff guides all aspects of the surrogacy process and is available to provide support every step of the way. This attention to “match-making” results in positive experiences for everyone. Maintaining a bond after the child’s birth is never required, but it does allow for future chances to help the same family. Repeat surrogates and intended parents often choose to work together multiple times, if and when the parents want to expand their family.
