The Egg Donation Process

Being an egg donor allows you to play an important role in a family’s life, while also helping yourself financially. You may have seen advertisements seeking egg donors in the past, but many people are unaware about the egg donation process and how to get started as a donor. Potential donors first must apply to become part of the donation program, passing a series of interviews, medical tests, and other screening requirements. These women are typically in their 20s and healthy, and go through a 2 to 3 month process from start to finish.

After you’ve been accepted into the program, you will be selected by a recipient. Once selected, you will undergo a full physical before signing a necessary legal agreement. Donors also receive instructions on medications to take to prepare for the retrieval process. On the morning of retrieval, a noninvasive procedure is done to remove the developed eggs. At the end of the donation process, the donor will earn usually between $7,000 and $10,000 as compensation.
