Why do you want to be a surrogate? The Family Creations interview process.

Every woman who expresses interest in becoming a gestational surrogate must participate in an interview with a Family Creations advisor. One of the questions we ask during the interview is for you to explain your reasons for becoming a surrogate mother. The responses we receive vary from applicant to applicant, though it’s fairly consistent that women who choose to become gestational surrogates do so because they can. For women who meet the age requirements, have previously given birth to a child, and are healthy, surrogacy is a selfless journey to help a person or couple start or grow their family.

Here are the top five reasons why women want to be a surrogate:

1. Giving the Gift of Life:

“Happiness is not so much in having as sharing. We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” – Norman MacEwan. As mothers, we know you appreciate the joy your child or children have brought into your life. In becoming a surrogate*, you can help provide this remarkable gift to another person or couple. This unique ability is truly an amazing gift to give.

2. Financial Incentive:

Besides receiving a monthly allowance and maternity clothing stipend, another reason for becoming a surrogate is that Family Creations offers competitive compensation. Our benefits package often allows our surrogates to stay home with their children during the surrogate pregnancy. Some surrogates choose to continue working and instead use the compensation from the surrogacy to pay off debts, pay for school, or plan a lovely vacation with their own family. There are many possibilities for how surrogacy compensation can be used, and deciding what to do with the additional $50,000 – $100,000+ you’ll earn is entirely up to you.

3. Health Care:

We ensure that our surrogates do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses due to their pregnancy. Receiving prenatal care is necessary to ensure a healthy start for the baby and the ongoing good health of the mother. This concern is why women who choose to be a surrogate are provided with health insurance. If your current health insurance plan does not cover a surrogacy pregnancy, your intended parent(s) will purchase a plan for you that does.

4. Proper Care and Guidance:

At Family Creations, every surrogate must have given birth to a child before carrying a pregnancy for another. This level of experience with motherhood is essential for navigating the unique moments of beauty and challenges pregnancy brings. For women, a top reason for becoming a surrogate with our agency is that we assign you your own professionally trained case manager. She will be with you throughout the entire surrogacy process. Additionally, your case manager deposits your compensation fees into a reputable escrow company’s account to be held for you in trust. This additional layer of financial security ensures you are promptly paid when payment is due.

5. Additional Support:

Another reason for becoming a surrogate with us is so meaningful is that we also offer a private support group for all women to join once approved into our surrogacy program. This space provides a place to share stories of your experiences during surrogacy pregnancies and deliveries. It’s a fun and special way to become friends and stay connected with other women going through the same journey as you!

*At Family Creations, we facilitate gestational surrogacy. The surrogate is genetically unrelated to the baby in this form of pregnancy. The embryos are created using the eggs from the intended mother or an egg donor and sperm from the intended father(s) or a sperm donor. Using in vitro fertilization (IVF), the embryos are surgically implanted into the surrogate. The gestational surrogate then carries and delivers the baby.
